Russia

russiaThe Chisty Les Biological Station in Tver, Russia has recently completed building work on a new large Education Centre. As with Bulgaria, there is still a bounty on wolves in Russia, and project staff are working hard for the protection of European wolves, brown bears and other large mammals.

An area of 12000 hectares around the biological station was recently granted protected status. The new centre will provide facilities for both wolf and bear conservation, and has already held a conference for over 60 bear biologists from all over Russia. Groups of local schoolchildren have also spent time at the centre.

A total of £5,500 has been sent to the project consisting of a £3500 donation from the UK Wolf Conservation Trust, and one of £2000 from a Trust member who lives in Belgium.
